Creighton Law School Hosts Supreme Court Arguments

In its 42nd appearance at the College of Law, the Nebraska Supreme Court was invited to hear oral arguments followed by a student question-and-answer period.

On March 30, 2022, the Court heard four cases in the law school courtroom, making the Court’s business accessible to law students on campus.

Everyday Heroes: Tarin Chapin, Nichole Emrich, and Dominique Frease Honored

Juvenile Probation Supervisor Tarin Chapin, alongside Juvenile Probation Officers Nichole Emrich and Dominique Frease (along with others working for probation), implemented a pilot project for youth in McCook to pair juveniles on probation with mentors. The Thrive Mentorship Program has provided youth with an opportunity to set goals and improve self-esteem. The purpose of the program is for mentors to assist youth in maintaining stability while remaining in their community. Chapin, Emrich, and Frease have exceeded their usual probation duties to help implement this new program.

Nebraska Supreme Court Holds Court Session at Bellevue West High School

The Nebraska Supreme Court held oral arguments at Bellevue West High School auditorium on the afternoon of March 30, 2022, as part of the Court’s ongoing outreach and education efforts.

The visit marked the first time that the Supreme Court has held arguments in the city of Bellevue. The visit is part of a continuing effort by the Nebraska Supreme Court and the legal community to raise awareness of court processes and the importance of civics education to American society.

Nebraska Supreme Court to Hold Court Session at McCook High School

In honor of Law Day, Nebraska Supreme Court Justices will hold oral arguments in the McCook High School auditorium on April 28, 2022, at 9:30 a.m.

“McCook Public Schools is extremely excited to experience this wonderful learning opportunity for our students,” noted Public Schools Business Manager Jeff M. Gross. He continued, “The McCook community is very proud of its political and legal history in Nebraska, and we are excited to showcase our community and our outstanding hospitality to the Nebraska State Supreme Court.”

Chief Justice Proclaims the Establishment of Nebraska Trial Court Week

Nebraska Chief Justice Michael G. Heavican announced the establishment of Nebraska Trial Court Week during a proclamation signing ceremony in the Supreme Court Chamber on Friday, March 18, 2022.

The ceremony kicks off Trial Court Week celebrations occurring throughout the Judicial Branch during the week of March 21-25, 2022. The ceremony can be viewed here.
