Young Adult Courts
Court Model
Young Adult Court is a multidisciplinary program that provides an alternative to sentencing for youthful offenders ages 18 to 25, who are at high-risk to recidivate, high need, and have been charged with a first-time felony offense. Young Adult Court is judicially-supervised, and participants receive community supervision, substance use and mental health treatment, education and employment assistance, and frequent drug testing as outlined in Nebraska’s Best Practice Standards. Young Adult Court operates under a team approach where a Judge(s), prosecutor, defense counsel, coordinator, supervision officer(s), law enforcement, treatment provider(s), and other identified team members work together to design an individualized program for each participant. The goal of this 18-to-24-month program is to stabilize participant’s lives by providing tools for success, thus keeping our communities safer and reducing recidivism.
