Two Graduate from Cass County Adult Drug Treatment Court
On June 22, 2026, the Cass County Adult Treatment Drug Court celebrated the graduation of two participants during a ceremony at the Cass County Courthouse in Plattsmouth, with the Honorable Judge Michael A. Smith presiding.
Special guests included Senator Robert Clements; Cass County Sheriff Robert Sorenson; Bob Denton, Deputy Administrator of the Adult Probation Services Division; Richard Fedde of the Cass County Attorney’s Office; and Angela Minahan of the Cass County Public Defender’s Office. Family members and friends also gathered to celebrate the graduates’ achievements.
The ceremony recognized the successful completion of a rigorous program that combines comprehensive substance use treatment, intensive community supervision, and a strong emphasis on personal accountability. Nebraska’s Problem-Solving Courts use a collaborative, team-based approach that brings together judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, coordinators, probation officers, law enforcement, and treatment providers to develop individualized plans that promote recovery, reduce recidivism, and improve public safety.
During the ceremony, each graduate reflected on their journey through the program and the positive changes they had made in their lives. In his remarks, Judge Smith praised their perseverance and personal growth, stating, "The accomplishments you've achieved are significant, but what stands out to me most is the person you've become along the way. The growth wasn't overnight. It happened through hundreds of small decisions to keep showing up, stay sober, and continue working on yourself."
Judge Smith reminded the graduates that commencement represents more than completing a program. "It is not just about completing the program. It is about strength, growth, accountability, and knowing that change is possible."
The Cass County Adult Treatment Drug Court requires participants to complete a minimum of 18 months in the program. Throughout that time, participants receive the treatment, support, and accountability needed to achieve lasting recovery and build stable, productive, drug-free lives. Upon successful completion, graduates have their charges dismissed, marking a significant milestone and the beginning of a new chapter.
