Southeast Nebraska Adult Drug Court Celebrates Graduation
The Southeast Nebraska Adult Drug Court held a graduation ceremony at the Nemaha County District Courthouse in Auburn, on December 16, 2025, with Judge Richard Smith presiding. The guest speaker was Vic Johns, CEO of Mission Field Treatment Center in Nebraska City.
Graduation marks a significant milestone for participants who have successfully completed an intensive program focused on substance use treatment, strict supervision, and personal accountability. Drug Court programs last a minimum of 20 months and equip participants with the skills necessary to maintain lives free from drug and alcohol addiction.
By combining comprehensive treatment with rigorous judicial oversight, Drug Courts empower individuals on their path to recovery while supporting long-term rehabilitation. Adult Drug Courts offer an alternative to the traditional justice system for nonviolent offenders with substance use disorders, utilizing a specialized, team-based approach within the existing court framework.
These courts are designed to reduce recidivism and substance use while enhancing public safety. They rely on evidence-based practices, including validated risk and needs assessments, early and individualized behavioral health treatment, frequent and random drug testing, incentives and sanctions, and a range of rehabilitative services to improve participants’ chances of long-term success.
