Lancaster County Veterans Treatment Court Celebrates Graduation

On June 10, 2026, the Lancaster County Veterans Treatment Court celebrated the graduation of Amber Summers during a ceremony held in the Veterans Memorial Garden at Antelope Park in Lincoln. The event recognized Summers' successful completion of a rigorous, highly structured program that combines comprehensive behavioral health treatment, intensive community supervision, and a strong emphasis on personal accountability. Judge Kevin McManaman presided over the ceremony.

Chief Master Sergeant Scott Tontegode delivered the keynote address. Also in attendance were Benny Shove, Tom Duden, Kristi Egger, volunteer veteran mentors, family members, friends, and members of the Veterans Treatment Court team, all gathered to recognize this significant milestone.

Veterans Treatment Courts provide an alternative to the traditional criminal justice process for eligible veterans with substance use disorders or other treatment needs who are involved in the justice system. Using a specialized, team-based approach, these courts combine evidence-based treatment, close judicial supervision, and accountability to address the underlying causes of criminal behavior. Through validated risk and needs assessments, individualized treatment plans, frequent and random drug and alcohol testing, and a system of incentives, sanctions, and supportive services, Veterans Treatment Courts help participants achieve long-term recovery, reduce recidivism, and improve public safety.
