On August 25, 2026, the Butler County Problem-Solving Court celebrated the graduation of Danielle, Charles, Anthony, Taylor, and David at the Butler County Courthouse in David City. Judge Tina Marroquin presided. The ceremony brought together members of the Judiciary, county leadership, and community partners who have supported the program since its inception. In attendance were Senator Jared Storm, Assistant Deputy Probation Administrator Adam Jorgensen, local law enforcement, County Board Members, members of the Problem-Solving Court team, and the graduates' friends and family. 

As part of the ceremony, Sandra Miller from the Veterans Service Office presented a refurbished American Flag to one of the graduates, veteran David, recognizing the commitment to change and the significance of this achievement for Platte County. Click here to watch the video.

Graduation represents months of dedication and hard work by the participants, as well as the collaborative efforts of the Court team, treatment providers, and community partners. Platte County Problem-Solving Court looks forward to continuing its mission to promote rehabilitation, reduce recidivism, and strengthen the community through innovative and compassionate justice. Proof that accountability and compassion can exist in the same courtroom. 

Problem-Solving Courts are an alternate route through the criminal justice system for nonviolent drug-related offenders that utilizes a specialized team process that functions within the existing court structure. The courts are designed to achieve a reduction in recidivism and substance use among individuals with substance use disorders. The court’s goal is to protect public safety and increase the participant’s likelihood of successful rehabilitation by using validated risk and need assessments, early, individualized behavioral health treatment, frequent, random chemical testing, incentives, sanctions, and other rehabilitative and ancillary services.
