Douglas County Young Adult Court Celebrates Graduation
The Douglas County Young Adult Court celebrated the graduation of Deandre during a ceremony held on June 24, 2026, at the Douglas County Courthouse in Omaha. The Honorable Judge Shelly Stratman presided over the ceremony, which recognized Deandre's successful completion of an intensive, highly structured program that combines comprehensive behavioral health treatment, close community supervision, and a strong emphasis on personal accountability. Family members, friends, and fellow participants gathered to celebrate this significant milestone and recognize Deandre's dedication, perseverance, and hard work.
Young Adult Courts provide an alternative to the traditional criminal justice process for eligible young adults with substance use disorders and behavioral health needs. Using a collaborative, team-based approach, these problem-solving courts focus on rehabilitation while holding participants accountable for their actions. The programs are designed to reduce recidivism, decrease substance use, and improve public safety through evidence-based practices, including validated risk and needs assessments, individualized treatment plans, frequent and random drug testing, a system of incentives and graduated sanctions, and access to supportive services. By addressing the underlying factors that contribute to criminal behavior, Young Adult Courts help participants develop the skills, stability, and support needed to achieve lasting recovery and lead productive lives.
