Douglas County Young Adult Court Celebrates Graduation

The Douglas County Young Adult Court celebrated the graduation of one participant on June 3, 2026, at the Douglas County Courthouse in Omaha. Judge James Masteller presided over the ceremony, which recognized the graduate’s successful completion of an intensive and highly structured program focused on rehabilitation, accountability, and personal growth. Family members, friends, treatment providers, and court team members gathered to honor this significant achievement and celebrate the graduate’s dedication and perseverance throughout the program.

Young Adult Court offers a structured alternative to traditional case processing for eligible nonviolent individuals with substance use disorders and behavioral health needs. Using a collaborative, team-based approach, the court combines comprehensive behavioral health treatment, close community supervision, and individualized support services to help participants achieve lasting recovery and stability.

Participants are held accountable through validated risk and needs assessments, frequent and random drug testing, regular court appearances, and a system of incentives and graduated sanctions. By addressing the underlying causes of criminal behavior and promoting positive life changes, Young Adult Court aims to reduce recidivism, decrease substance use, and improve public safety while helping participants build the skills and support networks necessary for long-term success.
