Judge Derek R. Vaughn of the Douglas County District Court was appointed to the Nebraska Supreme Court on November 10, 2025.

Vaughn joined the district court bench of the 4^th Judicial District in 2023, moving from the 4^th District County Court, where he served as judge from 2013. Before his judicial appointment, he served in the Douglas County Attorney’s Office, as well as private practice.

He fills the vacancy created in the 2^nd District for the Supreme Court by the retirement of Justice Lindsey Miller-Lerman.
