Chief Probation Officer Mary Visek to Retire June 5

Chief Probation Officer for District 4J, Mary Visek, will retire effective June 5, 2026. She has served the residents of Douglas County for nearly four decades.

Visek began her work with the Judicial Branch as a Probation Officer in 1987. She was later appointed Chief Deputy Probation Officer in 2010 before being named Chief Probation Officer on December 1, 2012.

Throughout her career, Visek has served under seven State Probation Administrators. She has overseen expansion of the capabilities of District 4J in their task of balancing community safety and rehabilitation while strengthening relationships with stakeholders and the community at large.

Reflecting on her career, Visek noted, “My favorite part of this job has been to develop relationships with everyone involved with probation in some way.  The people who do this work, in whatever their role, care deeply about making our community better. The work can be exhausting, and people keep showing up to support success. They are the best!”
