12 Participants Graduate from Douglas County Adult Drug Court
The Douglas County Adult Drug Court held its 132nd commencement ceremony on March 18, 2026, in Omaha, with Judge Timothy Burns presiding. Twelve participants were recognized for successfully completing the program’s rigorous requirements, including sustained abstinence from drugs and alcohol, active participation in substance use treatment, completion of educational and employment goals established by clinical staff, and ongoing performance reviews by Drug Court judges. This ceremony brings the total number of graduates since the program’s inception to 2,256.
The Douglas County Adult Drug Court was established in April 1997 to provide an alternative pathway for nonviolent, substance-involved felony offenders. The program combines judicial supervision with comprehensive substance use treatment, regular drug testing, and case management services, including support for employment, education, and other self-improvement goals. Admission requires review by the Douglas County Attorney’s Office and approval by a Drug Court judge. Participants must acknowledge their substance use disorder, commit to completing treatment, comply with all program requirements, and enter a plea to the charged offense, with sentencing deferred pending successful program completion.
Currently, 189 participants are active in the program. Additionally, more than 160 drug-free babies have been born to participants during their time in Drug Court. The program continues to demonstrate its value as an effective and cost-efficient approach to supporting long-term recovery, strengthening families, and enhancing public safety. We are proud to recognize and celebrate the achievements of these graduates.
