Clerk Magistrate Betty Boggs of the Knox County Court to Retire June 30
Knox County Clerk Magistrate Betty Boggs recently submitted her notice of retirement, effective June 30, 2026, after just over forty-two years of service to the Judicial Branch.
Retired County Court Judge Donna Taylor commended Boggs’ legacy of service: “When I arrived in the district in 1984 as a young lawyer, Betty was already employed in the office as assistant clerk. She was so helpful to me, she then helped me to learn the personality of Knox County. She became the clerk magistrate and had a part time assistant. Eventually she became a one-person office. When she had a “day off” she was still available to me as a judge and to the lawyers and citizens of the county by phone as she transferred calls to her personal phone. I have observed her to be extremely helpful to everyone who has business with the Knox County court. No one ever leaves her window or ends a phone call without her very cheerful and lifting goodbye. Her years of experience and helpful attitude will be nearly impossible to replace.”
“The rest of us also benefited from Betty's kindness and cheerfulness - For over forty-two years, Magistrate Boggs greeted parties, lawyers, and judges with a warm smile. Her knowledge and calm, friendly demeanor put court participants at ease. Her contributions to the justice system through her dedication to Knox County, her wisdom, and her kindness, will leave a lasting legacy in Knox County and the Seventh District,” noted County Court Judges, Danielle Fliam, Ross Stoffer, and Patrick Carney.
Immediately prior to Boggs' retirement, an interim clerk magistrate will be designated for the court.
