Aaron Benson, who previously worked as a Dual Clerk in Nance County, has been selected to serve as Merrick County Court Clerk Magistrate in Central City. His official work as Clerk Magistrate begins August 6, 2026.

“Aaron's experience serving as a Dual Clerk in Nance County will make his transition into the Clerk Magistrate position in Merrick County seamless. His familiarity with managing the responsibilities of both roles has prepared him well to step into this position with confidence and efficiency,” according to Trial Court Services Director Sara Fowler.

County court clerk magistrates work under the general direction of the presiding county judge supervising, assigning, and directing the work of all staff within the county court. The position carries a high level of responsibility for the people, paperwork, finances, and records of the court. Benson will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency of the court’s administrative functions and for investigating and evaluating potential procedural changes.

Benson will work in the 5th Judicial District with fellow clerk magistrates Carly Noack of Aurora, Jodie Roberts of Osceola, Deanne Uhrmacher of David City, Lisa Langan of Albion, Lindsay Meister of Columbus and Schuyler, Christine Thalken of Wahoo, Kimberly Haberman of Seward, and Allison O’Neill of York. Judges Lynelle Homolka, Denise Kracl, Andrew Lange, Breanna Flaherty, and Stephen Twiss preside over the courts and direct magistrates in the 5th District. The Judicial District includes Boone, Butler, Colfax, Hamilton, Merrick, Nance, Platte, Polk, Saunders, Seward, and York counties.

Benson replaces former Clerk Magistrate Mary Rodriguez who retires on August 5 after 5 years of service to the court system.
